Your Mind - Your Choice

At Natural Bodies, we take a holistic approach to mental and emotional health. There is an inseparable connection between the mind and body. Mental and emotional illness is not "all in your head." Nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, blood sugar imbalances, and inflammation of your physical body often cause the symptoms of brain fog, depression, anxiety, irritability, and mood swings in your mind. Holistic Nutrition – The human brain requires a steady supply of nutrients to function. When our brains lack proper nutrition, mental and emotional symptoms arise. To maintain mental and emotional health, we need to consume healthy foods. Most of the food available in grocery stores is not healthy. The food industry has processed the beneficial nutrients from most foods and replaced the nutrients with artificial chemicals, additives, and preservatives. Consuming these chemical additives and preservatives has given rise to an epidemic of new lifestyle diseases such as; obesity, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, hypertension, breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, allergies, and increased mental health issues. Nutrient Deficiencies - Specific nutrient deficiencies can be recognized through mental health symptoms. Here are a few of the common deficiencies: 

  • Your brain requires fats. There are two types of fats: healthy and unhealthy. Unhealthy fats abound in processed and refined foods. Healthy fats are sourced from whole unprocessed foods.
  • Your brain requires protein. Cells communicate with each other through neurotransmitters. The movement of neurotransmitters happens when they bind with receptor proteins within the cellular membrane. Without adequate protein, there are deficiencies in neurotransmitters.
  • B-vitamins aid biochemical reactions. B vitamins can help relieve symptoms of stress and depression.
  • B-12 and Folic Acid aid digestion, anxiety, depression, and low energy.
  • Vitamin D is an aid for depression and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). The most natural way to increase our Vitamin D levels is to improve our exposure to sunlight. Unfortunately, we spend most of our time inside buildings.
  • Magnesium deficiency has many symptoms; anxiety, panic attacks, irritability, excessive anger, difficulty concentrating, heightened sensitivity to pain, insomnia, muscle cramps and twitches, headaches and migraines, constipation, high blood pressure, and heart palpitations.
